A meeting was held at the AMV Hall of AMGC on 14th December 2016 which was attended by a delegation from South Korea, AUC/AMDC representatives, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Mineral Development of Zambia and AMGC officials. The meeting discussed the Korean Government support to the AUC for the AMGI Pilot project in Zambia which was selected by the World Bank to benefit from this support.

The Director General of AMGC is the Chief Executive of the Centre who leads the overall day to day activities of the Centre. The Director General is selected through a process lead by Executive Secretary of UNECA, from candidates applied for the post through their governments. The post of the Director General is widely advertised in the AMGC member countries, when it falls vacant, and the candidates proposed for the post are presented to the Governing Council for approval. The Director General serves for a maximum period of two terms of four years each.
The Current Director General, Mr. Ibrahim Shaddad was appointed in May 2015 by the 35th Meeting of the Governing Council of AMGC. Mr. Shaddad is a Geologist from Sudan.
